Getting Started

The best way to get started is by emailing us or completing the form on our Contact Us page. From there, we’ll set up your secure TaxDome portal and outline next steps based on your needs.

How do I get started with CKS Taxes?

Yes. We’re a year-round, fully remote tax practice. While January–April is our busiest season, we continue to support clients with planning, letters, and questions throughout the year.

Are you available year-round?

All tax returns are prepared and reviewed by Connor, an Enrolled Agent and owner of CKS Taxes. During tax season, Katelyn assists with communications, follow-ups, and portal support.

Who prepares my return?

Documents & Uploads

TaxDome is our secure client portal where you upload documents, sign forms, communicate with us, and access completed returns.

What is TaxDome?

Each year, we provide a personalized document checklist in your portal. Upload all tax forms you receive (W-2s, 1099s, K-1s, mortgage statements, etc.). If something looks tax-related, upload it; we’ll determine what’s needed.

What documents do I need to upload?

I haven’t received my K-1 yet. Should I wait to give you my documents?

No, Please upload all other documents first. We can begin preparing your return and plug in the K-1 when received. We cannot file without it.

What type of meetings do you offer?

CKS Taxes operates 100% remotely. Meetings are available by Zoom or phone when needed.

Generally, no. Exact receipts aren’t required unless we ask for them. Keep them for your records; summaries or year-end statements are usually sufficient.

Do you need my receipts?

Upload it to your portal as soon as it arrives. If we already started your return, we will update it before filing.

What if I receive a new tax form?

Payment, Signing & Delivery

You’ll receive an electronic signature request through your TaxDome portal. Once all required signatures are completed, we’ll file your return electronically.

How do I sign my return?

Why do you need separate emails for each taxpayer?

For IRS compliance and digital signature security, each taxpayer (and each signer) must have their own unique email address. Shared emails cannot be used for e-signatures.

Services & Fees

We provide individual and business tax preparation, tax planning, bookkeeping, and advisory services. For details, visit our Services page.

What services do you offer?

Yes. We handle both federal and state amendments. Amended returns are billed separately.

Can you prepare an amendment?

Fees are determined case by case based on the complexity of your return and services requested. We’re happy to provide an estimate once we understand your situation.

What are your fees?

Why is my tax return locked until I pay?

For security and workflow purposes, we make completed returns available for download once the invoice is paid. This helps us maintain secure and consistent document handling.

Other Common Questions

An extension gives you extra time to file your return—not extra time to pay taxes owed. If an extension is needed, we’ll help estimate any tax due and submit the extension for you.

What is an extension?

What if I get a letter from the IRS or state?

Don’t panic. Notices are fairly common and don’t always mean something is wrong. The first step is to upload a copy of the letter to your client portal. We’ll review it and let you know what it means and what, if any, action needs to be taken. In many cases, notices are informational or easily resolved. If a formal response is required, we will help you with the next steps.

What are your credentials?

What is the difference between an EA and a CPA?

Enrolled Agents (EAs) are federally licensed tax professionals who specialize exclusively in taxation. EAs are authorized by the U.S. Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS in all 50 states. CPAs are licensed at the state level and may specialize in a wide range of accounting areas (auditing, financial reporting, etc.); taxation is just one of those areas.
